How does hypnotherapy work? It has been said that the unconscious mind makes a great servant, but a lousy master! Or that the unconscious mind is like very fertile soil and that whatever seeds are planted there have no other option than to grow and flourish. Unfortunately though, our conscious mind governs much of what we do and most of our behaviour is ruled by our limiting beliefs that we accept as true. Hypnosis is a tool that allows us to bypass that part of our mind, called the Critical Factor, and speak directly to the creative, unconscious mind. So, a trained hypnotherapist can use hypnotic language and suggestions to speak to your unconscious mind and can ‘plant’ the seed of an idea or goal to be obtained. Simply put, what the mind agrees with the body responds to! |

How does it feel to be hypnotised? In a clinical setting, hypnosis is used while the physical body and conscious mind are in a relaxed state, while the subconscious mind remains in a heightened state of alertness and suggestibility. The experience is different for different people, and at different times. Typically, however, hypnosis is associated with feeling comfortably relaxed and similar to the pleasant sensation of being in a daydream. Deep hypnotic relaxation is similar in some ways to the kind of profound trance found in expert yoga or meditation practitioners and 10% of the population are natural somnambulists, meaning they quickly and easily enter a very deep hypnotic trance state. |

Is hypnotherapy safe? When undertaking treatment with a qualified professional, hypnotherapy is safe, beneficial and positive. In clinical hypnotherapy clients are never asked to do anything embarrassing or against their will. The client is always in control and can halt a session at any time, just as you can bring yourself out of a daydream or meditation. It is impossible to get ‘stuck’ in a state of hypnosis. It is a common misconception that the client is asleep during hypnosis, and perhaps due to the antics of stage hypnotism people have a fear that they will be unaware of what will occur during the session. The client is always aware and never asleep. And a hypnotherapist uses hypnosis for positive, therapeutic benefits - not for entertainment value! |

How can hypnotherapy help? The benefits of hypnotherapy are vast as the power of the unconscious mind should never be under-estimated. Even skeptics can be very successfully treated with hypnotherapy as belief in the process need not be required. However, a desire to achieve the outcome is always required and, as with all therapy, the responsibility for healing must be taken on by the client. As hypnotherapists, we view ourselves as coaches or guides in your success. Hypnotherapy can help in the following areas:
Personal development whilst in hypnosis can be achieved with methods such as:
Generally, whatever hypnotherapy is aimed at achieving, most clients report that the added benefits of hypnotherapy include reduced blood-pressure, improved sleeping, reduced anxiety, feelings of wellbeing and inner calm. |
