What is EFT? EFT or Emotional Freedom Technique is a meridian tapping technique and often referred to as 'energy psychology'. Created by Gary Craig over 20 years ago, it was based on Thought Field Therapy (TFT), but devised as a simplified version that makes it possible for anyone to learn and use themselves. It is a tool that works on the premise that the cause of all negative emotions is a disruption in the body's energy system. I never cease to be amazed at the consistency with which EFT demonstrates the mind/body connection and how powerful it is as a healing tool for myself and my clients. |

How does it work? Meridians carry our body's electricity, or energy, in the way that arteries carry blood and oxygen. When congestion builds up in our energy system, it results in negative emotions and blocks, unwanted behaviour, aches and pains, illness and disease. In the way that acupuncture helps to clear the congestion by using needles at various meridian points in the body, EFT makes use of meridian junctions that rise to the surface of the skin making it possible to use our fingertips to gently tap on the points. We know now that emotional trauma contributes greatly to disease. Scientific studies have shown that EFT is able to rapidly reduce the emotional impact of memories and incidents that trigger emotional distress. Once the distress is reduced or removed, the body can often rebalance itself, and accelerate healing. |

What type of problems can I 'tap' on? Gary Craig's catchcry was 'try it on everything!'. There are no negative side effects. Around the world, practitioners use it in many areas of speciality. It is very successful with treating stress and the symptoms that occur in our minds and bodies and studies are showing that using EFT reduces cortisol production by up to 50% more than some other therapies. Equally as successful is the reduction of minor ailments such as aches and pains, headaches, migraines, insomnia. Cravings, fears and phobias are also commonly addressed successfully. As the name implies, EFT is extremely helpful in dealing with emotional issues including anger, jealousy, past traumas, self-esteem and confidence problems. If you can pinpoint a negative emotion, an event, a symptom then you have what is known as a 'tappable issue'. Whilst EFT does not ever claim to cure disease or serious illness, it is certainly a beneficial tool to support people suffering from illnesses such as auto immune disease to cancer. Patients would be advised to share their EFT success with their medical doctor as EFT is never a substitute for medical or mental health treatment. EFT is increasingly being used as a tool to create success and abundance, align goals with the law of attraction and enhance creativity, happiness and wellbeing. |

How can EFT help me? Many people who come to my practice discover EFT as I help them overcome a problem. The more they 'tap', the more improvements they begin to experience and there is often a 'ripple on' effect and they notice other areas of their life may change. I enthusiastically recommend that they continue tapping at home on a daily basis to maintain the positive results they experience in my office. People are often surprised that by tapping on the current problem state, it seems to rapidly clear their negative perception. Often their attitude changes and then physical change follows. For example, if someone is tapping about a conflict, they may feel the stress, anger or irritation fade away, although the circumstances haven't changed. It's actually hard for them to feel that same intensity, even when they try. In the days to come, new opportunities present, the person with whom the conflict was occurring may soften or some other event takes place to help resolve the situation. Clients generally report that as they move through a session, the heaviness and burden lift - they find their outlook feels brighter, they feel lighter and more positive. Sometimes they can actually forget what it was that was bothering them, as if it had never been a problem! As the problems are 'tapped' away, creative solutions and ideas and clarity start to flow through, helping to understand that the answers are already within and you can begin to see how EFT truly does bring emotional freedom.
